- Cleckheaton Methodist Church
New Artwork!
We were privileged to receive beautiful artwork created for our Church by local Cleckheaton artist Josie Barraclough.
The painting makes use of symbolic form as well as literal imagery specifically related to Cleckheaton‘s industrial past - specifically the intertwining of woven yarn with the Crown of Thorns.
The strong, vertical bands are used to represent the Ascension as well as forming a Cross with the horizontal bands. Peace and the Holy Spirit are represented by the rising dove. Humanity is symbolised by the myriad shapes, carried through by transcending waves. The floral imagery is prompted by the tributes on the entry to Jerusalem and the force of new life.
The Interpretation is largely symbolic and draws on techniques and influences the artist gained in her travels, including the work of the indigenous Australians.
